Leaked portfolio demonstrates HTC shifting focus to Android
The recently leaked portfolio of HTC (High Tech Computer) new handsets, totaling eight models, for the first half of 2010 clearly demonstrated that HTC has shifted its focus to development of Android-based smartphones, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
The new phones will come in four categories: Design (the Legend and Salsa), Social (the Tide and Buzz), Performance (the Bravo) and Productivity (the Photon, Trophy and Tera), and the five models under the former three categories will be Android-powered phones, while the three models under the Productivity are Windows Mobile 6.5-based devices, the sources pointed out.
In terms of percentage, Android phones will account for over 60% of new models and Windows Mobile models will take up less than 40%.
The Android-powered performance model, the Bravo, will replace Windows Mobile-based devices as the most importance handset launched by HTC in the first half of 2010, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.
The Bravo, which will be powered by a Snapdragon QDS 8250 1GHz CPU, eventually will debut in the US market in January 2010 under the trade name of Passion before being marketed by T-Mobile under the Bravo in Europe in April 2010, the paper said.
