Nutcracker Audience Encouraged to Turn Cell Phones On
During several performances of "The Nutcracker" at the Academy of Music, audience members will be encouraged to turn their cell phones on.
The "Turn Your Cell Phone On" campaign will encourage audience members to turn their cell phones on during the intermission and the end of the Nutcracker performances December 26th through the 31st. Those participating will be asked certain questions, like what was your favorite scene, to encourage audience participation.
Tom Kaiden is chief operating officer of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance:
"You know, the traditional model of coming into the room and have the lights go off and being silenced. We want to turn that on its ear a little bit and give people an opportunity to participate."
The Alliance will not charge for the texting or solicit any personal information from those participating.
