Calling All Innovators 2010 starting pistol fired by Big Bird

WHITE PLAINS, NY, USA – Today sees Forum Nokia announce its smart Calling All Innovators 2010 challenge, an annual app development competition that last year saw stacks of mould-breaking ideas spring to life (read about last year’s winners). This year’s challenge promises to mark an exciting evolution to proceedings, with developers tasked with creating apps to fall into four distinct app categories – Life Improvement, Eco/Being Green, Productivity and Entertainment. But the coolest bit of Calling All Innovators 2010 is that Forum Nokia has teamed up with Sesame Workshop, the folk responsible for the iconic children’s TV show Sesame Street, to help support education related apps in the Life Improvement category with a view to encouraging developers to craft creative and exciting apps (possibly using Sesame Street characters) to teach early literacy on Nokia handsets to people anywhere in the world. Read on to find out more, and what the folk at Forum Nokia and Sesame Workshop are saying about this alliance for Calling All Innovators 2010.

SesamePurnima Kochikar is vice president Forum Nokia, and playfully talked about this exciting collaboration:

“Today’s announcement is brought to you by the letter S. Teaming up with Sesame Street allows us to inspire the imagination of developers to help educate children worldwide through advances in mobile technology with quality, branded content.”

Jeffrey Fleishman is assistant vice president for Media Distribution Business Development at Sesame Workshop, and highlighted how this partnership will help grow a collection of innovative education apps for emerging markets:

“With Forum Nokia’s community – over four and a half million developers strong – we’re challenging those particularly in emerging markets to create educational tools that make a positive impact. We’re looking for creators who can bring a fresh perspective and local knowledge to the growing field of educational mobile applications. Our goal is to find some partners with which we can work to extend the power of Sesame Street to new platforms and places.”

Submissions from developers for the 2010 Calling All Innovators contest will be accepted starting on 1 February 2010. The submission deadline will be 18 May 2010. If you’re interested on soaking up more info on what Calling All Innovators 2010 is all about, simply click here for the full lowdown.
