Taiwan market: Chunghwa Telecom reports better-than-expected profit for 2009

Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) on January 11 reported unaudited net profit of NT$43.785 billion (US$1.335 billion) for 2009 and net earnings per share (EPS) of NT$4.51, which is 2.97% higher than its original goal of NT$4.38.

CHT had about 1.64 million FTTx (fiber to the home/building) subscribers and 370,000 ADSL subscribers at download speeds of 8Mbps or above as of the end of December 2009, the company indicated.

Taiwan Mobile (TWM) and Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) have also released their financial figures for December 2009.
