Operators can now migrate cost-efficiently to next-generation wireless networks

Nokia Siemens Networks proves interoperability between its FlexiPacket Microwave solution and the Tellabs® 8600 Managed Edge System.

Operators can now offer their subscribers more compelling data services at attractive prices. In recent customer projects, Nokia Siemens Networks has tested and proven how its all-IP FlexiPacket Radio microwave solution successfully interoperates with the Tellabs 8600 family for IP/MPLS* networks. Such a combination – as part of Nokia Siemens Networks’ mobile backhaul solution – enables operators to migrate legacy networks to fully packet-based technology for faster data routing at lower costs.

“With the growing use of smartphones for bandwidth-hungry services, operators are facing capacity constraints in their networks and need to differentiate themselves by providing the best service experience,” said Vesa TykkylƤinen, head of Microwave Radio Transport at Nokia Siemens Networks. “They can address this challenge by migrating to all-IP or Ethernet networks using Nokia Siemens Networks’ mobile backhaul solution to provide faster access to high-quality data services.”

“Backhaul transport is a strategic and critical part of the overall network optimization process, accounting for 30% of the overall capital investments for many providers,” said Mika Heikkinen, vice president and general manager for managed access products at Tellabs. “The right backhaul solution can offer cost savings for operators and ensure a faster time-to-market and optimum network performance.”

Nokia Siemens Networks’ FlexiPacket Radio requires only a small amount of hardware to be installed in existing base stations, allowing operators to hold down CAPEX. With a packet data capacity of up to 1Gbps, it is designed to carry vast amounts of data traffic with the lowest possible latency*, which reduces “jitter” in real-time applications such as video conferencing. Ideal for implementation in 3G, HSPA+, WiMAX and LTE networks, it can be tailored to operators’ individual infrastructure needs and existing network architecture.

The Tellabs 8600 system reduces service providers’ capital and operating costs, enabling them to cost-effectively offer high-speed connectivity services and applications.
