Chunghwa Telecom, NCTU cooperate with Nokia Siemens for LTE experiment
Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) on April 9 announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) Taiwan to co-establish an LTE-SAE (long term evolution-system architecture evolution) trial network in Taiwan.
The project is test basic functions of a LTE-SAE network, and evaluate MIMO multiple antenna technology and IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) multimedia service performance based on LTE-SAE, paving way for evolution of CHT's existing WCDMA network, the company said.
On the same day, NSN Taiwan announced cooperation with National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) to help the school set up a TD-LTE (time division-LTE) trial network.
According to NCTU, NSN will provide core equipment and base stations as well as technology while China Mobile Communications, a China-based mobile telecom carrier developing TD-LTE, will provide its TD-SCDMA operating experience for reference.
With operation to begin in October 2010, the trial network will provide broadband services of video phone communications, high-definition teleconference and online games, said NCTU, which is located next to the Hsinchu Science Park.
