Nokia China gives support worth 2 million RMB to Qinghai Earthquake Victims

CHINA – Following the recent devastating earthquake in the Qinghai region of Western China, we just wanted to update you on what Nokia was doing locally. Naturally, the team in China has been in discussions about how we can best help – and just as importantly make sure that we don’t hinder the current efforts.

We can tell you that Nokia China will be providing support to the value of 2 million RMB to help with the immediate relief and rescue efforts. Nokia’s aid will focus on medical support, basic shelter and devices.

Through non-government organization ‘Global Doctors‘ Nokia will sponsor medical aid to be delivered to the region.

In addition, Nokia will be working with the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation agency to support the construction of medium-term housing. These ’slab houses’ with bedding will help survivors with basic shelter needs until the full scale reconstruction can start.

Nokia will be also be sending 1,000 handsets to our partners in the region to be used in rescue and support efforts. The first 500 handsets will be dispatched today (Friday) the rest early next week.

Our hearts go out to those impacted by this tragedy. We will continue to review and monitor the situation.
