Recycle your cell phone, get a free flower + win prizes
Tuesday, April 13 & Wednesday, April 14
11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (rain or shine)
Farragut Square Park (Connecticut Avenue/K Street) + Triangle Park (21st Street/M Street/New Hampshire Ave)
Help make the Golden Triangle Clean, Green & Golden this spring by participating in our Flowers for Phones event.
Drop off a used phone to be recycled at one of the above locations on April 13 and 14 and you get a free potted flower to take home and a chance to win one of many cool prizes from Golden Triangle businesses.
Stop by at 12:00pm on Tuesday, April 13, both to meet Ward 2 DC Councilman Jack Evans and to get a $50 gift certificate for BLT Steak--we'll be holding a drawing to give out the gift certificates to four people who are in the park at noon sharp (whether they are recycling a cell phone or not!).
Other prizes that will be given out to people who recycle cell phones include:
Prizes include:
• Free massage from Eye Street Massage Therapy
• $50 from Public Bar
• Three-course dinner for two from M Street Bar & Grill
• $50 from Green & Blue boutique
• $50 from Bread & Brew
• $100 from Taberna del Alabardero
• $50 from Spezie
• $50 from Foundry Gallery
• $50 from Sam & Harry's
There are 500 million used cell phones sitting around that can pollute the environment and threaten human health. By recycling cell phones, the amount of toxic metals leeching into soil and groundwater can be reduced.
Stop by Farragut Square Park or Triangle Park on April 13 or April 14 from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. to recycle your used cell phone—it’s easy, free and tax deductible—and you’ll get a free flower for your home or office and a chance to win cool prizes from area shops and restaurants. It’s all part of the Golden Triangle’s Clean, Green & Golden week to make the District's central business district look better than ever.
As long as your phone has been deactivated from service, there aren’t security or privacy concerns. All makes and models of mobile phones, pagers, and PDAs are accepted—along with batteries, chargers, and other accessories. For more details on what can be recycled visit Earthworks, the Golden Triangle BID's partner responsible for recycling the phones. Or, email scarroll@goldentriangledc.com at the BID for additional information about the event.
