China's mobile phone user base closes in on 800 million
There were 795.92 million subscribers of mobile communication services in China as of the end of May 2010, representing growth of 1.20% on month and 15.86% on year, according to statistics published by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The number of subscribers at the end of May accounted for 56.3% of the country's population (user density).
Also at the end of May 2010 were there 305.92 million subscribers of fixed telecommunication networks in China, translating into a user density of 23.6%.
In May 2010, mobile phone subscribers in China sent 66.31 billion short messages, averaging 2.70 short messages per phone number a day.
