Smart Grid Expert Available to Speak on Using New Technologies and Practices to Prevent Blackouts and Lower Costs During Heat Waves

WASHINGTON -- With the electricity grid straining as many US cities experience temperatures over 100 degrees, Dan Delurey, President of the Demand Response and Smart Grid Coalition (DRSG), is available to speak about how new smart grid technologies and practices can help ensure the reliability of the electric grid and also reduce costs and emissions. Mr. Delurey can explain how the present electricity system works and how it will change as the Smart Grid is developed and deployed.

Mr. Delurey appeared yesterday (July 7) on NPR's All Things Considered and explained that demand response, a practice which exemplifies "the smart grid in action," can provide a "virtual power plant" instead of forcing another power plant to be dispatched. The interview with Robert Siegel—"How Smart is the Smart Grid?"—can be heard at this link: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=128365808.
