Strong June sales deliver record quarter for Silitech
Taiwan-based handset keypad maker Silitech Technology posted a new monthly record with consolidated revenues of NT$1.18 billion (US$36.9 million) in June, up 10% on month and 31% on year. The company's second-quarter revenues were a quarterly high, rising 10.76% sequentially and 10.76% from a year ago to NT$3.17 billion.
Though its main client Nokia has lowered its guidance for the second half of 2010, Silitech still expects strong orders from Nokia's low-end to mid-range devices as well as new products released by Samsung and RIM, the company said, adding that third-quarter revenues should increase by 10-15% sequentially.
Handset components such as keypads and casing contributed 90% to Silitech's sales in June, according to the company.
Fellow component maker Ichia Technologies' June consolidate revenues of NT$725 million were its highest monthly level thus far for the company in 2010, up 8.6% on month and 7.4% from a year ago. Its second-quarter revenues of NT$2.028 billion increased 24.34% sequentially, and first-half revenues totaled NT$3.659 billion, a 7.6% drop on year and below the NT$4 billion forecast.
With stronger orders for smartphone components, Ichia projects at least a 50% improvement in sales for the second half of the year.
Ichia actually received orders worth NT$800 million in June, but material shortages have limited and delayed shipments.
