Huawei launches two Android phones – U8300 and U8500
Huawei, the world No. 2 company in the mobile equipment industry, today launched two Android phones amongst others and is slated to launch four more Android phones in India. The phones will be running on Qualcomm chips and priced from Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 20,000.
Huawei with today’s launch has officially stepped into Indian open market. The two phones launched by the company in the Android series are U8300 and U8500 while four more Android-based phones are in the pipeline. Qualcomm and Huawei have entered into a strategic alliance by which Qualcomm will be providing Huawei with the required chipsets. It is still not clear as to what exactly the specifications of the phones are, the chipsets being used; or which version of Android these phones will be running on. We might see the first Rs.10,000 Android phone as promised by analysts since the beginning of this year. We can finally expect strong competition for other Android phones in the mid-range category, with the demise/lack of market availability of Samsung Spica, there hasn’t been a decent mid-range phone with a HVGA screen. Android phones were not too visible in this price range but with this launch, changes can be expected in the mobile market.

The U8300 is the oddest-looking Android phone; it is green and has an unusual shape. Equipped with a touch screen, 3G enabled with a QWERTY keypad it is just weird to look at. It has Google market and other features that is synonymous with Android technology those being multiple emailing solutions, social media integration and widgets. U8500
U8500 has a sleeker and meaner look than U8300, it is equipped with Android, U8300 – QWERTY Android phone. The phone is 3G enabled and is capable of video calling on 3G networks. The software features remain same as any Android phone. More updates with the launch of the phone.
Huawei U8500 - 3.2" screen, 3G ready
Even after the launch not much is known about the technical specifications of these phones. The official launch is on 1st August 2010.
