Omea Telecom and Ericsson sign infrastructure and managed services contract for Virgin Mobile
Omea Telecom signs contract with Ericsson to supply infrastructure and managed services for its mobile virtual network operator Virgin Mobile France
Around 2 million Virgin Mobile users will benefit from better services thanks to Ericsson’s telecommunications infrastructure
Contract includes core network solutions and service platforms
French mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) holding company Omea Telecom has signed an infrastructure and managed services contract with Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) in France. Thanks to the contract, 2 million subscribers – belonging to Omea Telecom’s MVNO Virgin Mobile France – will enjoy improved services and a richer user experience. By agreeing to the contract, Ericsson strengthens its position within managed services in the country and commits to supply the operator with the full range of telecommunications infrastructure needed for complete customer management. These include databases of subscriber details (Home Location Register), service platforms, and traffic management equipment such as circuit switches and packet solutions. Once the new infrastructure has been installed, Ericsson will operate it for Omea Telecom.
Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, President of Omea Telecom, says: “By signing this contract we’re pursuing our goal to grow. Omea Telecom is already France’s fourth largest mobile operator. As an unbundled mobile operator, we’re demonstrating our ability to adapt to the evolving telecoms market and the emerging expectations of consumers. We selected Ericsson because it has the capabilities to provide the support we need in terms of technologies and services.”
Franck Bouétard, Chief Executive of Ericsson France, says: “We’re excited to enter this contract since it will enable Virgin Mobile to become the first full MVNO operator on the French market, once its network is in place. It also allows Ericsson to further strengthen our presence in the country within operator core networks and managed services.”
Ericsson has been developing its comprehensive services business for a number of years and expects this market to grow rapidly in the future. The company is well positioned to take advantage of this growth, with 45,000 employees dedicated to services as well as significant investments. Specifically, Ericsson has invested USD 1 billion in the tools, methods and processes needed to provide managed services.
