More iPhone N94 Prototype Photos Leaked – Is this iPhone 4S or iPhone 5?

Images of iPhone 5 back cover marked with N94 didn’t revealed much about the next iteration of the device, except that it will launch in White color scheme with iPhone-4-like form factor. But now we have received couple of shots of LCD, Digitizer screen panel and Home Button parts for N94 iPhone 5 that will make the picture clearer.

The LCD part is clearly labeled as N94 “EVT1″ (Engineering Verification Testing) with date ’03-March-2011′. Whilst, the white front cover posted few days back was labeled “EVT2″ with date ’07-June-2011′. Since these are marked as N94 EVT1, the images are definitely of next generation model.

The panel part shows same bezel space on the sides of the display, as well as similar space between the screen and the home button and top ear piece, when compared with iPhone 4. If you compare the digitizer component, it is exactly the same as that of iPhone 4 model. The home button might not be going anywhere and the cut-out area for Home Button is still circular which debunks earlier claim that iPhone 5 will get an elongated Home Button (rather capacitive). But then there is a slightly burning question – Are these images of iPhone 5 or 4S?

If these screen shots are any indication of what the final product will look like, and keeping WSJ report in mind, we are definitely looking at an iPhone 4S, and not iPhone 5 which is rumored to have a major design change. But still, these N94 leaked parts contradicts with the chassis of low cost iPhone 4S model.

Apple, however, works on multiple iterations of the device at the same time and depending on market conditions, some design features may be dropped between different versions. It is quite possible that these leaked parts will not get past beyond Apple Labs.
Anyway, we’ll probably have to wait until October to figure out exactly what the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S will look like. Coupled with the new Apple A5 chip and iOS 5, both the models will probably give people reasons to upgrade this year too.
[Update 1]: After today’s report of iPhone 5 getting metallic back instead of reinforced glass, we think that these parts are for cost-effective iPhone 4S and not for upgraded model.
[Update 2]:The only difference between the two is a small dot just beside the proximity/light sensor (see Image 4).
