Nokia Siemens Networks services center in Russia begins operations
Global Network Operations Center aims to improve quality and efficiency of operators across Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States
MTS the first to benefit from centralized network operations and economies of scale
Nokia Siemens Networks announced the start of operations for its Global Network Operations Center (GNOC)* located in Voronezh, Russia. The new center will help telecoms operators across Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to improve the speed, quality and efficiency of their services. The GNOC in Russia will improve economies of scale through its centralized network operations for regional operators. Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) in Russia is the first operator to enjoy these benefits.
The governor of Voronezh, Alexey Gordeev attended the launch, along with Armando Almeida, head of Global Services for Nokia Siemens Networks, and Kristina Tikhonova, head of Nokia Siemens Networks in Russia.
“Operators around the world are seeing the benefits of outsourcing their network operations, and this trend is gaining momentum here,” said Almeida. “Our GNOC in Russia is our fifth globally, and will help operators in the country and CIS to outsource their daily network operations and maintenance tasks. This will allow them to focus on their core business activities such as improving service quality and increasing business profitability.”
“This is the first such network operation center established by any telecom vendor in Russia to provide a full range of services. Operators in the region now have access to operations from a reliable telecom vendor with a strong local presence and significant international experience of managing multivendor networks,” said Tikhonova. “MTS is our GNOC’s first customer in the region, and we will apply the new center’s scale, automated tools and processes to drive speed, quality and efficiency across the MTS network.”
“With the complexity of our network increasing and the number of subscribers growing rapidly, we need to further improve the network performance to ensure the best customer experience,” said Oleg Svirsky, CTO, MTS Russia. “We believe that the new GNOC’s innovative practices will improve our operational efficiency, and network reliability and performance. Centralizing network operations at the GNOC will significantly reduce our capital and operating costs while enabling us to provide high-quality services for our customers.”
The center, built with the capacity to expand up to 3,000 square meters, is able to host up to 500 expert technicians. The center is being expanded to manage up to 100,000 network elements in Russia. The new center’s areas of expertise and resources will also grow to include network planning and optimization services.
The new facility is designed to operate multi-vendor networks. This new GNOC joins an existing network of four other multi-technology, multi-vendor GNOCs – two in India, one in Portugal and one in Brazil. These centers ensure high network and service performance through transparent Service Level Agreements and more efficient service delivery while reducing risks.
The GNOCs are interconnected to allocate resources optimally. By centralizing and consolidating resources at these GNOCs, Nokia Siemens Networks delivers economies of scale to its customers and drives network efficiency. The centers have a remote delivery model, and apply standardized and automated IT tools and processes. Today, the network of GNOCs remotely handles close to 180 million network alarms and generates over 185,000 performance reports every month.
