Samsung has joined the Hybrid Consortium Memory Cube

Samsung and Micron have joined forces to develop the new technology of computer memory. The Korean manufacturer to join the project Hybrid Memory Cube Consortium, which makes the task of creating new technology superdense computer memory, which should be faster, more efficient and cheaper than existing designs DRAM. The so-called Hybrid Memory Cubes must make dramatic leap in performance and architecture. According to estimates the rate will increase by 15 times compared to DDR3, a savings of $ 90% compared with RDIMM, and power consumption reduced by 70% for each bit. This increase in compactness and energy efficiency will be primarily relevant for mobile devices, which are limited battery capacity, dimensions and weight. To succeed, Samsung and Micron have to completely revise their development projects, which should be created a completely new architecture that combine high-speed logic process technology and through-silicon-via (TSC) with respect to memory. This will allow for multi-core processors and graphics cards corresponding to their memory requirements. No exact time frame in which the NMS memory will not yet known. It is expected that the technical specifications of this memory for the industry will be developed in 2012. Representatives from Samsung and Micron hopes that other manufacturers of computer memory join their project.
