G & D introduced the world's first Nano-SIM card
The German company Giesecke & Devrient (G & D) today announced the world's smallest SIM card - nano-SIM, which is less than one third of these miniature cards, like micro-SIM. From the words of the company, its development may occur in the first mobile device in the next year, enabling handset manufacturers to produce smaller and thinner devices.
The dimensions of the new nano-SIM card is about 12h9 mm, in this case was also reduced by 15% and thickness, making it 60% smaller than the standard SIM-card size. Working samples of nano-SIM card, as reported by G & D, have already been provided for testing the various mobile operators. Standardization of nano-SIM cards, is expected to be implemented within the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) at the end of this year.
Demonstration of nano-SIM cards to the general public will be on display CARTES & IDentification 2011, which will be held from 15 to 17 November in Paris.
