Huawei officially inaugurates the new Global Microwave Competence Centre in Milan
Huawei, leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, officially inaugurates the first Global Competence Centre for the latest generation of Microwave Technologies in Milan. The new Centre will act as a new excellence hub for innovation at Global level for the development of wireless technologies and will be the first global competence centre of Huawei outside the Chinese Headquarters. The decision to delocalize the Competence Centre in Italy testimonies the importance of the country in the Global strategy of Huawei and the intention of the company to strongly invest in the local territory and on the local people.
The investment on the Milanese Centre is led by the excellent results achieved by the research and development centre in the past three years and is facilitated by the strong high-level competences and know-how available in the area. Lombardy is internationally reckoned as a natural ecosystem for the development of microwave technologies, thanks to the solid investments on Universities and research. Those key factors lead to Huawei's decision, for the first time, to delocalize the Global Microwave Competence Centre in Milan. The new Competence Centre will include, in addition to the global research and development activities, also the service, marketing and sales support.
"We are very proud to inaugurate this important innovation hub. Huawei is strongly committed to invest in the local market and to offer a valid contribution to the economic development of the territory. The high investment in the Global Microwave Competence Centre testimonies the firm decision to become a point of reference for the operators as a leader in the microwave technologies for the ICT industry. By the beginning of next year, Huawei counts to have more than 100 staff dedicated to our Milan Centre", declared George Zhao, Managing Director of Huawei in Italy.
"The Centre has an International scope and will contribute to generate solutions to implement innovative mobile broadband networks, helping the traditional microwave systems to meet the growing demands of high-end mobile networks. For the first time our company decides to delocalize a global structure in Italy; we applaud this important decision that highlights our strong focus on research", declared Renato Lombardi, Huawei Vice President Microwave Product Line.
The rapid growth of 3G HSPA mobile broadband connection and the future adoption of 4G (LTE) will contribute to increase the needs in terms of network capacity and density. The introduction of new microwave wireless technologies such as IP transformation, improvement of the spectrum efficiency and the exploitation of the new spectrum at millimetre wave frequency ranges, will play a fundamental role for the network modernization, meeting the growing demand for capacity and meeting other important requirements imposed by 4G.
Huawei opened the Microware Research and Development Centre in Milan three years ago, thanks to the worldwide leadership on these solutions. In the meantime the market share of Huawei on microwave solutions passed from a 1% to the current 16%, with a consistent growth in the European market.
