Sony Xperia S could tip up this month

JAPANESE PHONE MAKER Sony's first phone without the Ericsson name will arrive on 30 January in the UK.
Online retailer Play is claiming that the Sony Xperia S smartphone will be released on 30 January with a price of £449. We've spoken with Play, which confirmed the scheduled availability date.
In contrast, rival retailers such as Clove and Ebuyer have dates of 5 March and 12 March, respectively. Their prices for the Xperia S are pegged at £467 and £429, respectively.
We're a little sceptical about this, as the phone was just announced at the consumer electronics show (CES) in Las Vegas only last week. In our experience Play has changed the release dates for smartphones.
The handset will also be available from mobile operators including O2 and Three. The former and The Carphone Warehouse are both expecting the Xperia S to show up in March. Phones 4U will also offer it but has no date yet.
The main features of the Xperia S include a 4.3in high definition display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 12MP camera, NFC functionality and an HDMI port. It will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but will be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich soon after launch, according to Sony.
