APPLE IPAD MINI 7 INCH CONFIRMED APPLE IN TALK WITH SMD TO DELIVER FLEXIBLE AMOLEDS FOR FUTURE IPADS


In an official Samsung Securities document which we get from an anonymous user Samsung confirm that Apple is in talk with SAmsung Mobile Display to deliver flexible AMOLEDs or standard AMOLEDs for their handsets like Iphone/Ipad. Apple plans in 1Q12 to launch the Ipad3 we already know that and in Q3 2012 a new 7 inch product the iPad mini.

Apple plans to sell more than 100 million iPads in 2012 and plans to use higher resolution IPS panels for the iPad3. Apple has not decide yet to use flexible panels in its next iPad models. The panel makers (Samsung Mobile DIsplay) has to improve the resolution and have to be ready to mass produce so much panels. At the moment Samsung Mobile Display could produce only 54 million panels per year, if its 5.5G production line were fully used for tablet pc production. Samsung confirmed that they start mass production of flexible displays in 2012.

There are also some price comparison LCD-Amoled At the moment a iPhone 4 3.7 inch IPS-LCD cost 38.50 dollars a 4.3 inch Super-Amoled-Plus Galaxy S2 50-55 dollars. A 7.7 inch Super-Amoled-Plus (Galaxy Tab 7.7) 150-170 dollars. For Apples iPad 9.7 inch AMOLED it would cost 240-260 dollars.

Amoled handsets
Samsung excepts that handsets with oled technology could reach 168 million in 2012. 82 million are 2011, 38 million in 2010. Samsung can increase the production capacity to 18 million per month at the 4.3 inch size. 259 4.3 inch panels can be made from a single AMOLED mother glass produced at the 5.5G line suggesting that SMD 5.5 G A2 line and 3.5 A1 line.
