MWC 20120: ZTE launches "Touch and Share" NFC feature
Uses NFC to automate Bluetooth or wi-fi between devices in close proximity.
Chinese OEM ZTE is keen to position itself at the forefront of NFC having become an associate member of the NFC Forum. It also launched the Turkcell-branded T1 Android smartphone, which enables motorists to pay at toll booths using the touch tech.
And now there's Touch and Share, which has been designed to reduce pain for the user: it replaces the need to scan for and match terminals or input a password with a single tap.
This could work for other NFC phone users or machines like wi-fi routers.
“ZTE Touch and Share is a combination of NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi,” said Kan Yulun, CTO of the Handset Division at ZTE. “The core protocols we have incorporated into Touch and Share enable users to link up devices without the requirement to manually find and then make a connection.
"Users will enjoy the benefits of connecting quickly and easily - sharing contact information, images, video or even an internet connection, all by simply touching two Touch and Share-enabled devices together.”
ZTE says it's exploring more applications in social networking and mobile gaming.
