Newest Sony smartphone announced – Xperia sola, bringing magical floating touch technology

Today marks the debut of the Xperia™ sola, the newest addition to the 2012 line up of Sony Xperia™ smartphones. Xperia™ sola introduces a cool new feature never before seen in any smartphone – floating touch™ technology, which lets you (among other things) browse through your favourite links without even touching the screen. Read more about Xperia™ sola’s floating touch feature, plus the full phone specs, after the jump.
Signature feature – floating touch technology
Xperia™ sola is the first ever smartphone to use the floating touch™ technology, which allows you to interact with the phone without actually touching the screen. The capacitive touch screen in Xperia™ sola enables the device to register your finger up to 20mm above the screen, opening up for completely new ways of interaction. This feature is built-in web browser of Xperia™ sola, to use it you can simply move your finger over browser links to highlight them. For the link you want, touch it to open. There are also live wallpapers that reacts with floating touch™ input, to give Xperia™ sola an almost magic feeling. Look out for our upcoming blog post about floating touch™, which will explain the technology and the possibilities it brings for developers.
