Beltelecom Selects Huawei for Belarus' First Coherent 100G WDM Network

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, announced that it has been selected by Beltelecom to deploy the first commercial 100G WDM network in Belarus. The Huawei network will employ cutting-edge optical coherent detection technology.

The network will cover 1,200 km, with the longest service path spanning the distance from Grodno (on the Polish border) to Vitebsk (on the Russian border). By using ePDM-QPSK coherent 100G technology, the 80-channel WDM system has capacity of up to 8 Tbit/s without the need for conventional DCM modules. The network will offer ultra-broad bandwidth for data services in Belarus as well as leased-line services, transmitted between Europe and Asia, for Russian carriers.

"Huawei has been our long-time partner and we have witnessed the success of Huawei's 100G trial networks. I am confident that the commercial coherent 100G system will ensure ultra-broad bandwidth with high stability for the national backbone and ultimately help to serve our customers better than ever," said Sergey Sivodedov, chief technical officer of Beltelecom.

Huawei is a pioneer in 100G WDM development, with 16 commercial 100G networks and more than 50 trial 100G networks deployed to date. Huawei provides first-class transport network products such as WDM/OTN/ MS-OTN, MSTP/Hybrid MSTP, microwave products, and end-to-end network solutions. According to consultancy firm Ovum, Huawei ranked No. 1 in the global optical network market, WDM/OTN market, and 40G network market as of Q3 2011.
