Damian Dinning is leaving Nokia!

Amateurphotographer has the scoop: Damian Dinning is leaving Nokia. Since nothing is known about his personal reasons to do so, I will quote some from the original post in this update  as well.

Dinning joined Nokia in April 2004 and brought Nokia many years of experience in cameras and photography that included key roles at Minolta UK and Eastman Kodak.

In a statement released to AP, Nokia UK said: ‘Following the relocation of key strategic roles to Finland, and with great reluctance, Damian Dinning has made a personal decision to leave the company effective 30 November 2012.’ AP understands that Dinning’s decision to leave came as a blow to bosses.

Dinning was lead program manager for Imaging Experience at Nokia. He was the reponsible man for the revolutionary Nokia 808 PureView with the amazing possibilities of the 41MP sensor. Damian Dinning is in fact directly responsible for the start of this site, the PureViewClub.

As we all know at the club, Nokia has just revealed its latest flagship, the Lumia 920, with a new view on “PureView”, with optical image stabilization enabling low-light photography and steady video footage. The first PureView Flagship on Windows Phone 8, the Nokia Lumia 920 appears to be a phenomenal success.

The Nokia statement adds: ‘During the past nine years, [Damian] has made many innovative and valuable contributions to Nokia, most recently as a lead program manager in our Smart Devices business. We thank him for his service to the company and certainly wish him the best.’

What can I add? It has been an honour and a privilige to have come in contact with this brilliant and extremely friendly man and I will miss his input for the PureViewClub enormously.

You will find Daming Dinning mentioned at the PureViewClub in these posts

PS To those who think there will be no more “PureView future” for Nokia: of course there will be! The team is much larger than “just” Damian. Eero Salmelin is there there, Juha Alakarhu is still there, Ari Partinen is still there, Kristina Björknäs is still there, to name just a few names of the very talented innovative team at Nokia. So there is no reason to panic. Like many of you, I’m just very sad Damian is leaving :-(
