Sony sold 8.8 million smartphones in the quarter

Sony has released a fiscal report for the second quarter of fiscal year (ending September 30, 2012). For the past three months, the company managed to reduce losses to $ 198 million, with total revenue of 20.5 billion. These indicators can be considered some success of crisis management actions led Kazomi Hirai (Kaz Hirai), as losses in the previous quarter were 312 million dollars, a year earlier than 350 million. In the third quarter of the current fiscal year, Sony still expects new losses, but it is likely that the steps taken will allow the corporation to return to profitability in the next financial year. Separately, we must mention the results of the quarter on sales of smartphones. For the three months Sony sold 8.8 million units, which is much larger 7.4 million in the previous quarter (annual comparison is not available because they had previously sold under the brand name Sony Ericsson). However, this figure does not mean the success of Sony in the mobile business, as outlined in the report. The popularity of smartphones has caused significant impact on the segment of the photo and video cameras, especially their version of the budget. Camcorder sales fell to 0.9 million units per quarter (1.1 million in the first quarter and 1.2 million the year before), and camera to 3.6 million (4.4 million in the first quarter and 6.0 million a year earlier . to fall slightly in the annual comparison and supply of portable game consoles with 1.7 million units to 1.6 million.
