Enjoy the great outdoors with Xperia™ Z – it’s both waterproof and dustproof (IP55 & IP57).
A top of the line smartphone
Xperia™ Z comes with the MSM8064 Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ S4 Pro platform, with Krait 1.5 GHz asynchronous quad core processor. The Snapdragon S4 class of processors is the first mobile processor to be manufactured using the latest 28nm process technology that provides advantages in frequency scaling, power consumption, and size reduction. The MSM8064 incorporates the Adreno 320 GPU, for outstanding performance (up to 4x of its predecessor) and graphics, better battery life, and improved multi-tasking.
In selected markets, a design variant of Xperia™ Z, called Xperia™ ZL, will also be released in Q1 2013. Xperia™ ZL delivers the same immersive entertainment experience as Xperia™ Z but in a smaller form factor. Both Xperia™ Z and Xperia™ ZL will launch on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and will be upgraded to 4.2 shortly after launch.

5” full HD Reality Display with 13 MP camera, Mobile BRAVIA Engine, and HD Voice
Xperia™ Z comes with a 5” full HD 1080p Reality Display. You’ll also find a 13 MP fast capture camera paired with the new Exmor RS sensor that comes with HDR (High dynamic range imaging) for video. Exmor RS and HDR lets you take sharp, clear photos in lowlight and strongly backlit conditions.
Another astonishing feature in Xperia™ Z is the Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2, which is an evolution of theMobile BRAVIA Engine. Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2 is a high quality image engine that delivers an even better viewing experience than before by adding a new real-time contrast optimisation and improved sharpness enhancement on top of high quality colour management and noise reduction. Later this week, we will publish a more in-depth article on how Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 works in detail, so stay tuned!
HD Voice1 is also featured in Xperia™ Z. This technology transmits a broader spectrum of the human voice, providing more natural sound and better clarity, even in noisy environments. HD Voice functionality is operator dependent, and only available to consumers on the same national network, and where both the calling and called party each as an HD Voice-compatible mobile phone (find out how HD Voice works in our recent technical article about HD Voice).
Easy to share content with the new “Throw” feature and One-touch connectivity
It’s super easy to take entertainment from your smartphone to the big screen. With the new “Throw” feature, you can easily share content from your Xperia™ Z to your Wi-Fi-enabled TV through screen mirroring or DLNA. Or you can send your music to a speaker using Bluetooth. Using the “Throw” feature, the smartphone finds the best way to wirelessly connect to other devices. With an MHL cable, you can also mirror your phone’s full user interface on your TV and watch movies or play games while charging your phone. With the newly announced BRAVIA TV, you can simply tap Xperia™ Z to the remote control of the TV to instantly enjoy your photos and videos on the big screen. Read Anna Aleryd’s post on the new “Throw” feature in Xperia™ smartphones.
Xperia™ Z also incorporates One-touch connectivity – one simple pairing step for sharing photos, music, and more, wirelessly across smartphones and other NFC-enabled devices, which includes two Sony NFC-enabled headsets also introduced today – the Stereo Bluetooth Headset SBH20 and theWireless Headset DR-BTN200M. For more info on how NFC works, read our technical article about NFC.
Premium content & apps
Xperia™ Z users will have access to all types of premium content in the Sony Entertainment Network*, including a library of 18 million songs to explore from Music Unlimited. You also get superior sound quality with the in-built “WALKMAN” Sony media application including xLOUD™ audio technology and 3D surround sound. And the PlayStation Network has PlayStation®-certified content to guarantee high-quality smartphone gaming and access to the PlayStation Store, as well as enhanced Android games from Xperia exclusive.
Small Apps are also supported on both Xperia™ Z and Xperia™ ZL. Small Apps are small apps that run on top of other applications and add smart solutions for daily routines requiring multi-tasking, like extended widgets. An example is the Small App called Mini Remote, which controls the volume with a small remote widget on your phone when playing music (at the same time as you might be surfing the web). Keep checking Developer World for a post on developing Small Apps for Xperia™ Z and Xperia™ ZL.
