SAMSUNG Unveils Next-Generation Thin- and Zero-Client Cloud Displays for Seamless Access to the Business Cloud via Desktop VIirtualization
New TC and NC-Series cloud access displays combine the latest VDI and desktop virtualization access technology, driving cloud computing adoption in the enterprise
Samsung Electronics America Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, today announced its next-generation TC191W and TC241W thin-client and NC191 and NC241 zero-client cloud displays. The latest lines combine VDI and desktop virtualization for simple and highly secure access to a business cloud, which customers are increasingly depending on for essential information.
"We are seeing that a growing amount of IT capability will be based in a variety of business clouds during the next few years," according to Robert Mahowald, research VP at IDC. "Our recent NA CloudTrack survey (summer 2012, n=801) data show that by mid-2014, businesses expect to devote nearly 34% of their IT resources to hosted cloud solutions, public and private, and 21% to building private clouds in their datacenters, while spending less (33%, a decrease of 12% in spending over 2012-2014) on traditional datacenter-based IT deployments. Clearly customers are moving their key assets to cloud architectures of various types, and business users will depend on secure and reliable access."
Olympic Medical Center is one such organization that has built a virtual environment with Samsung’s NC-Series zero-client cloud displays to support fast and secure electronics health record adoption by its physicians. “Transitioning to Samsung’s cloud displays enabled us to centralize essential applications while maintaining patient data security,” said Sean Johnson, information systems manager at Olympic Medical Center. “The new workflow is significantly faster for our physicians and has cut dictation and chart completion time while providing a slim clutter-free solution.”
Seamless Virtualization
Both the TC-and NC-Series cloud displays provide integrated connectivity to business clouds via desktop virtualization technology, therefore eliminating the need for a bulky PC with excessive IT administration costs. As sensitive information is centralized and secured in a business cloud, the user environment is easier to deploy, maintain and manage while minimizing exposure to security risks.
The NC-Series allows organizations to easily migrate to a VDI cloud, increasing productivity, strengthening protection of sensitive data and streamlining IT costs. Certified for optimal use with VMware View, the NC Series displays have built-in access technology using the latest Teradici Tera2 chipset technology. The NC-Series also features SoC (System-on-Chip) technology, which reduces the desktop attack surface while nearly completely eliminating the need for client-side administration.
The TC-Series cloud displays are flexible thin clients with a wide range of desktop virtualization access components built-in, allowing users to connect to a variety of hosted cloud environments. From a familiar Windows interface, users can toggle between published Citrix applications, access a virtual desktop from their VMware server, or login to a corporate HR site from the local IE web browser. With Windows Embedded Standard 7 (WES 7) pre-installed, users get the simplicity of a thin client with PC-like utility.
Functionality is expanded by allowing administrators to add local software requisites to drive peripherals like web cams or printers, and to install local utilities needed for unified communications. With all of this flexibility users can still retain the simplicity and security of a traditional thin client. Since the primary purpose of TC-Series display is cloud access, the software image has been streamlined to reduce client-side administration. And the advanced write filtering software can secure endpoints in a read-only state with just a click of a button.
Streamlined Workspace
Available in 19- and 23.6-inch models, both the TC- and NC-Series cloud displays are designed to eliminate bulky PCs from the workspace and seamlessly blend into an office interior. By integrating hardware and cabling into the display, this sleek design minimizes clutter. This clean design is convenient for attaching a second display to the digital video output to improve productivity or plug a notebook into the video-input for temporary use as a monitor.
A wide, 170-degree viewing angle and Samsung’s Magic Angle technology allows for easy viewing of the screen - no matter the vantage point - and the 150mm height-adjustable stand enables users to comfortably place the display at a height and tilt suited to their computing needs. A 90-degree pivot function and wall-mounting capability make them ideal for specialized workplace environments like healthcare, education, government and financial institutions.
For a superior visual experience, both cloud displays have advanced encoding and decoding for processing multimedia content and high quality images practical for graphic design (CAD) and 3D rendering.
Tactile selection and function buttons are also incorporated into the design, making it easy to adjust settings and power the display on and off. A single button press can power off the display and server connection, making energy conservation a simple and easy process.
