HTC One likely to arrive in China before May

Taipei, March 7 (CNA) Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corp. said Thursday that its newest flagship model, the HTC One, will probably hit store shelves in China before May.

Ben Ho, chief marketing officer of HTC, said the company has been in talks with the top three telecom operators in China to sell the HTC One there and that the phone will likely go on sale before that country's week-long holiday begins on May 1.

"When we plan the launching timetable in a country, we will consider that country's long holidays because of the strong buying during that time," he said on the sidelines of a product launch event for the HTC One in Taipei's downtown Xinyi District.

Ho said HTC is working on increasing the supply of the HTC One because the device has received strong demand from global operators.

He said he will fly to Tokyo and Singapore in the coming months in preparation for the company's marketing events.

Launched on Feb. 19 in London and New York, the HTC One sports a 4.7-inch display with full-HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a 1.7-gigahertz quad-core processor and a new "UltraPixel" camera that enables ultra-sharp photo shooting and video recording, according to HTC.

Earlier on Thursday, HTC announced the pricing for the flagship model in Taiwan, which is expected to revive the company's fortunes.

A 16-gigabyte HTC One will be priced starting from NT$19,900 (US$670), while the 32GB and 64GB models will be sold at NT$21,900 and NT$24,900, respectively, HTC said in a statement.
