Huawei Ascend P6
Huawei Ascend P6 Overview
The Huawei Ascend P6 is the new, impossibly thin smartphone from Huawei. Measuring just 6.18mm in thickness, it really is an incredibly slender device from edge to edge.
Not only is the P6 slim, it is beautifully designed as well. The aluminium alloy finish makes it prominent amongst some of its plastic peers and produces a great feel in the hand.
Huawei Ascend P6 Display
Being such a slimline handset, you could be forgiven for thinking that the Ascend P6 is delicate, however it is anything but. The metal frame offers sturdy protection and the screen is manufactured from Gorilla Glass 2 for protection against bumps and scratches. The screen itself comes in at a very respectable 4.7" and utilises iPS LCD technology with a resolution of 1280 x 720.
Huawei Ascend P6 Camera
Huawei have included an 8MP rear camera with the Ascend P6 and a 5MP front facing camera. The latter is particularly impressive given that market-leading handsets only tend to include a front facing camera up to 2MP. Some mid-range handsets only achieve a 5MP sensor for their main camera so the Ascend P6 will ensure the best self portraits and video calls.
The rear 8MP camera has a large 2.0 aperture to improve low light shots and can autofocus just a few centimetres from an object should you wish to take a close up. There's also auto scene recognition, which will automatically adjust the camera settings for you in order to optimise the photo that you are taking. Also included is the ability to record and playback video in 1080p.
Huawei Ascend P6 Processor
With a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, it's safe to say the Huawei Ascend P6 is no slouch. It runs the latest version of Android (4.2.2 Jelly Bean) and also features the Huawei Emotion UI. Huawei's custom Android skin includes a 'Me Widget', which pulls in information from various streams such as social networking updates, photos, weather and local time and groups them all under one screen.
Also included with Emotion UI are motion controls. These give you the ability to control your handset with certain actions. For example, turning the phone over during an incoming call will silence it. Emotion UI also includes over 100 different themes so that you can easily customise the look of your handset.
Huawei Ascend P6 Battery
Another very impressive aspect of the Huawei Ascend P6 is its battery, which has a capacity of 2,000mAh. It's incredible that Huawei has been able to fit such a large battery into the P6 given its screen size and overall profile.
Huawei, which has played an important role in developing the mobile infrastructure that has become so crucial to modern society, has applied its engineering expertise to optimise the way that the P6 works with mobile networks, improving the P6 battery life by as much as 30%.
Also included with the P6 is an advanced battery Power Management app, which Huawei likens to the power saving settings found on many laptops. This can optimise the phone's settings if you're running low on juice and will tell you how much battery life is available in relation to specific tasks, such as playing back a movie or listening to music.
Huawei Ascend P6 Storage
The Huawei Ascend P6 comes with 8GB internal storage, of which around 4GB to 5GB will be accessible to the user. However, there's also a microSD card slot, which is compatible with cards up to 64GB.
Huawei Ascend P6 Connectivity
The Ascend P6 comes with Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and GPS. Being an approved Android handset means that it has access to Google Maps (and Google's other apps, for that matter) so you'll never be stuck for directions. The P6 also features Wi-Fi direct, which enables it to connect to other Wi-Fi direct devices for file sharing. For music playback there is a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microUSB port for charging/data transfer.
Huawei Ascend P6 Profiles
To simplify your usage of the P6, Huawei has included a profiles feature that will change multiple settings in one go; Outdoor mode will turn the brightness to max, activate GPS and set the volume to full or Meeting mode will turn everything to silent but leave messages on vibrate. Profiles are easy to configure and only take a moment to turn on and off.
