SAMSUNG Announces Availability of Samsung School Interactive Classroom Packages at ISTE 2013

Eloy Elementary School District of Arizona among first schools implementing Samsung School for 2013/2014 academic year

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, today announced at ISTE 2013 the U.S. commercial availability of Samsung School, a fully integrated one-to-one learning package that combines the latest tablet and display technology to create an interactive, student-centric learning environment. Samsung School will be on display at the San Antonio Convention Center, Booth #9186, from June 24-26 alongside the company’s full line-up of education products and solutions.

Samsung also announced that Eloy Elementary School District of Arizona is among the first U.S. schools to license Samsung School, with 24 smart classrooms being outfitted for the 2013/2014 school year.

“Samsung is committed to harnessing technology to create new learning experiences that are more attuned to the way students growing up today as digital natives acquire knowledge,” said Tod Pike, senior vice president at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division. “The Samsung School packages provide educators the technology they need to create a truly interactive classroom environment that engages students by making learning more personalized and more collaborative.”

An Integrated Solution
According to a survey of school district administrators and instructional technology leaders conducted by the Center for Digital Education, enabling personalized learning, increasing student engagement and enhancing collaboration are among the top drivers for implementing one-to-one computing programs. However, only 48 percent of survey respondents saw a noticeable increase in classroom collaboration by implementing one-to-one computing when compared against traditional classrooms.

Samsung School was developed to address this demand for an integrated solution that would enable dynamic instruction, interaction and collaboration. Samsung School combines the Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 tablet with a range of classroom technology, all tied together with Samsung’s learning management and interactive teaching software. The easy-to-use learning management system (LMS) aids teachers with course administration and content management, as well as providing course bulletin boards, school announcement and texting features. In class, interactive teaching tools include: screen sharing; student screen monitoring and device control to track student progress and keep lessons on track; instant quizzes and polls; and group collaboration on a single digital canvas making use of the GALAXY Note’s sophisticated S Pen.

Samsung School is available in several packages and configurations for school districts to choose from, depending on their needs and budget. As a special introductory offer, the Samsung School software will be available for $25 per student for a one-year license including support and upgrades. A standard classroom technology package including GALAXY Note 10.1 tablets for a teacher and 30 students, Samsung School software licenses with support and upgrades for three years, the Samsung AllShare Cast dongle and a tablet charging station will be available for an MSRP of $20,000. Comprehensive packages are also available bundling together teacher PCs, Samsung interactive whiteboards or displays, wireless printers and mobile device management solutions. Samsung School will be sold through leading educational technology and solution providers including CDW Corporation, Logical Choice and others

First Samsung School Implementations
Over the past year, Samsung has partnered with more than 20 school districts globally – including Memphis City Schools in Tennessee – to pilot Samsung School, ensuring that the technology is teacher- and student-tested prior to general availability.

With today’s commercial launch, among the first school districts preparing to implement Samsung School classrooms for the 2013/2014 academic year is Eloy Elementary School District of Arizona. The district selected a Samsung School package including GALAXY Note 10.1 tablets for each teacher and student, 65” interactive whiteboards, PCs for teachers and wireless printers to equip all 24 classes at Eloy Intermediate School, which spans grades 4 through 6.

“As a rural school district whose students do not always enjoy access to computers and internet, one of our top priorities is providing students greater opportunities to utilize new technology so that they can acquire the 21st century skills they need to thrive in their adult lives,” said Ruby James, Superintendent of Eloy Elementary School District. “The key differentiator with Samsung School is that it is an integrated solution that gives teachers the framework and tools to manage lessons and facilitate digital interaction. We also liked the fact that Samsung School is a student-centric solution and encourages a collaborative approach to learning.”

Partnerships For Smart Education
Samsung is partnering with leaders in the education market to provide districts implementing Samsung School and other Samsung technology with a broad array of content and solutions to enrich teaching and learning. As part of a partnership for lifelong learning announced earlier this year, Samsung and global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) are collaborating to deliver award-winning mathematics program HMH FUSE to the Android platform. Samsung has also aligned with SOTI as one of its key partners providing Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions to educational institutions. Using Samsung’s open APIs, SOTI has optimized its solution for managing large numbers of Samsung devices for one-to-one learning initiatives. Already operational at more than two dozen districts across the U.S. and Canada, SOTI MobiControl allows schools to easily deploy and update applications, scan and protect against viruses, and filter inappropriate web access on school grounds.

Both partnerships demonstrate Samsung’s continuing commitment to expand its ecosystem of educational content and solutions to give schools world-class options for leveraging technology to improve learning outcomes.

New Learning Experiences
In addition to the Samsung School, Samsung’s booth will be showcasing examples of how technology can deliver new learning experiences in various settings within a school district, including the Smart Classroom, the Smart Teacher’s Room and the Smart Library. Other products and solutions on show include:

Samsung MagicIWB 3.0 – The latest software platform for Samsung’s range of interactive whiteboards, MagicIWB 3.0 enables schools to combine multiple displays for greater engagement and collaboration.

World’s First NFC-enabled Color Laser MFPs – Samsung’s new Xpress C460FW integrates Near Field Communications (NFC) technology together with Samsung’s award-winning MobilePrint App to allow teachers and students to effortlessly print images and documents from smartphones or tablet PCs by simply touching their device to the printer.

Mobile Computing Lineup – A full range of mobile computing devices including Samsung Chromebooks, Samsung ATIV Smart PCs and Galaxy devices.
