All you need to know about the Photograph for Nokia in Puerto Rico Comp

If you’re an aspiring photographer looking to showcase your expertise today is your lucky day. Why? Because we’ve teamed up with National Geographic photographer Stephen Alvarez to launch a unique photography competition. The National Geographic Society is one of the world’s largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations. Its mission is to inspire people to care about the planet. And one way they do this is through amazing photography.

The challenge

Recently Stephen tackled a ten day assignment to capture the American West—armed only with a Nokia Lumia 1020. You can check out the stunning results of his adventure here.

Stephen Alvarez is a world-renowned professional who produces stunning global stories about exploration, adventure, and culture. A National Geographic photographer since 1995, he has published over a dozen stories with the magazine, including the discovery of an ancient Incan mummy in Peru, the deepest cave in the world near the Black Sea and a jungle expedition through Central America’s longest cave. To win the opportunity to join him of his next assignment, we’re now challenging you to submit photos inspired by the spirit of travel, nature or adventure.

How to enter

To enter this amazing competition, you need to simply head on over to creative community Talenthouse and join up. Next, submit your photo of breathtaking landscapes, natural settings or wildlife. Tell us about your photograph and what camera you currently use in your description box. You can take your entry with any camera or photographic device. 

What’s up for grabs?

Firstly Nokia and Stephen Alvarez will select 40 finalists to receive a one year subscription to National Geographic Magazine and new Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone ‘trial’ device. These finalists will be asked to put the Nokia Lumia 1020 to the test and discover things they never thought possible with a smartphone.

Your goal will be to curate a portfolio of travel and adventure themed photos that tell incredible stories using the Nokia Lumia 1020 Pro Camera features and Zoom. Happily, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is the world’s best camera smartphone. It allows you an incredible amount of control by adjusting focus, shutter speed, white balance and more with easy and intuitive settings.

The fab five winners

Once the forty portfolios have been entered five winning portfolio holders will be selected by the judges to receive the chance to join Stephen Alvarez on a mentoring road trip through Puerto Rico. This all expenses paid Action Adventure trip to Puerto Rico, the ultimate sand and surf adventure, will be fully documented with the Nokia Lumia 1020. Winners will also get a masterclass with Stephen to create a travel journal/portfolio of pictures, a Nokia Lumia 1020, and a one year National Geographic subscription. What’s more, they’ll see their photos featured on National Geographic’s Nokia Hub

The deadlines

To enter you need to submit your photo by 10am on October 10, 2013. The 40 finalists will be chosen and sent Lumia 1020 devices by November 1st, 2013 and the winner will be announced on November 29th.
