Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) Hardware Specs Finally Uncovered? Disappointing?

With the end of the year closing in, we’re all excited to see what year 2014 might have in store for us, on the mobile market and not only. But without getting too deep into what our new year’s resolutions will be, let’s talk some more about one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2014: the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Most of you already know that there have been tons of rumors concerning this particular device. Some of these rumors have suggested that the S5 could adopt a diamond-coated metal case, a QHD screen, as well as a Snapdragon 805 processor. That, however, might not be the case after all, as what appears to be the SGS5 has been recently spotted in Antutu’s database. Check back after the break for more details.

Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) – Hardware Specs Look Disappointing?

The team behind the Antutu benchmark has recently discovered a new Samsung device in their database, dubbed the “SM-G900F”. As a matter of fact, the “SM-G900F” model number has surfaced before, and it’s believed that this particular device is the one and only Samsung Galaxy S5. The Antutu team also says that they’re “almost sure” this is the international variant of Samsung’s upcoming flagship.

With all that out of the way, we can now take a look at what the alleged specifications look like, and we must say, they do look a bit disappointing. According to Antutu’s findings, the handset is being powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU. Specifically, we’re looking at the MSM8974AC version, which is really not bad at all! But while the 8974AC is the most powerful SoC from the 800 series and can run at frequencies of up to 2.5 GHz (only confirmed to be found inside the yet to be released Chinese handset Gionee ELIFE E7), it’s still not as powerful as the newest Snapdragon 805. The aforementioned chip runs at the same 2.5 GHz frequency, but it does have an Adreno 420 GPU instead of 330.

Furthermore, the device seems to pack 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, a 16 MP main camera which might be the previously announced ISOCELL unit, and a 2 MP front-facing sensor. The handset appears to be running on Android 4.4 KitKat. So far so good.

However, contrary to what we’ve expected, this mysterious smartphone also appears to run on a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080, and not QHD (2560 x 1440). Rather disappointing for a future Samsung flagship, but before you get too bummed out, keep in mind that this might be a prototype. More so, Samsung might’ve locked the screen’s resolution to 1080p for testing purposes (the Chinese translation says “screen locked in 1080P“), in the same manner that Google locked the Nexus 4′s resolution to non HD standards while in the Android 4.4 development phase, before the new OS got released.

We suppose we can’t be 100% certain of what type of screen we can expect from the Galaxy S5, but the rest of the hardware specs look pretty accurate. Any thoughts? We’ll keep you posted, so stay tuned for more.
