‘Serious vulnerability’ discovered in Samsung KNOX

Samsung’s push into the business market has been spearheaded by its KNOX security suite, but a vulnerability discovered in KNOX by Israeli researchers might be cause for concern. Researchers from Israel’s Ben Gurion University of the Negev have come forth with the claim that an unnamed hack could allow someone to access emails and monitor data communications, on devices like the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4, which come with integrated KNOX functionality since Android 4.3.
For those unaware, KNOX works by integrating itself with Android’s framework and the device hardware to create a “container,” a separate execution environment for apps to run and store data. Any apps that are run inside this environment have their data safe and sound from those outside it, allowing one to run trusted apps without fear of having their data compromised. The discovered hack can supposedly access data inside the container, which would make the whole point of KNOX a moot one, so hopefully Samsung will work on closing the loop-hole as quickly as possible.
