The life and death of cities

John Rossant, Founder and Chairman of the New Cities Foundation discusses the successes and failures in cities.

In most cities today, urban development is decided at a governmental level rather then by those who live in it: the citizens. Rossant believes this could be the number one reason for the shortcomings of cities, and says that a people-centric approach is the way forward.

According to Rossant, ICT will also have a role to play in how cities develop. Networked cities attract young talent, which cities need to stay competitive. If a city lags behind in services connected by ICT, they will suffer from a failure to attract talented people and in turn find it difficult to stay competitive on a global scale.
