A ghostly takeover, fashion unplugged and festival photography – this week in Sony

Seen anything odd recently? Londoners passing through Waterloo Station on their daily commute were in for quite a shock. The railway station has been taken over by the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, who you probably know as the pesky nemesis from the original Ghostbusters movie. The display was unveiled Monday morning – the same day as the new Ghostbusters movie was released in UK cinemas. The delicious but deadly monster features in the brand new film, and the installation has seen floods of fans descend upon the station to take selfies and pick up souvenirs. Unfortunately Stay Puft seems to have escaped the station now, but the remnants of slime can still be seen.  If you missed out on the chance to see the installation, make sure you check out the photographs.

phone caseIn a piece of news just as exciting as a gigantic marshmallow man, this week a starry-eyed fashion partnership was announced. Sony has partnered up with sustainable swimwear label AURIA to create an eye-catching capsule collection of travel accessories made from redundant headphone wires. Created using over 113 metres of wire, the unique collection mirrors the five vibrant colours of Sony’s h.ear range.  The Sony x AURIA ‘Fashion Unplugged’ collection includes a Lime Yellow passport cover as well as a Cinnabar Red beach bag, Viridian Blue smartphone case for Xperia X and Charcoal Black beach sliders. See the innovative collection for yourself here.

radioElsewhere this week, Sony announced the availability of a new radio-controlled lighting system that has been designed to meet the demand of Sony photographers. The system can be used with Sony’s α interchangeable lens cameras and it will include the FA-WRC1M wireless radio commander as well as the FA-WRR1 wireless radio receiver.

Finally, festival season is in full swing and you’re probably deciding what camera equipment to take. However, there’s no need to worry, this week we shared our Festival Photography Guide and it turns out your smartphone is the only thing you need. Smartphones are the perfect equipment for the festival season and the quality camera on your Xperia X, in particular, will allow you to get great atmospheric photos every time – here’s our guide.

That’s all we have time for now. Enjoy your weekend.
