Huawei's Christopher Donley, OPEN-O TSC Chairman, Presents the OPEN-O Architecture at its first Webinar

In early June, the industry's first end-to-end open source community focused on SDN/NFV Orchestration, OPEN-O was launched. The OPEN-O Governing Board (GB) elected China Mobile’s Dr. Deng Hui as Chair of the OPEN-O Project and Huawei’s Mr. Christopher Donley as Technical Steering Committee (TSC) Chair.

The Governing Board approved the OPEN-O TSC charter, which covered the governance structure, operational rules, and community roles. The Technical Steering Committee is chartered to provide technical direction, new project approvals, version planning, and overall act as the technical decision-making executive body for the OPEN-O project.

Christopher Donley, Senior Director is well-known in the telecom industry as an SDN and NFV expert. In his work at Huawei, CableLabs, and Avaya, Mr. Donley has spearheaded a number of open source and telecom projects. Chris held senior leadership positions in open source communities and standards organizations including OPNFV, MEF, and OpenDaylight. “OPEN-O is designed to orchestrate any service over any network”, Mr. Donley said at the OPEN-O’s first webinar held by Telco Transformation on June 28: “OPEN-O is model-driven to allow operators to focus on rapidly developing and deploying new services."

The primary goal for OPEN-O is to accelerate the commercialization of SDN and NFV, and ultimately, the transformation of carrier operations. Chris commented, “we want to make OPEN-O an attractive community for developers.” We firmly believe that an open source community led by leading carriers and vendors with oversight by the Linux Foundation will leave an indelible mark on the entire telecommunications industry.
