Mobile Device Research: 2016 security trends, attack rates, and vendor ratings for smartphones, tablets, laptops, and wearables

With the convenience of mobile devices in the enterprise comes all kinds of security risks. Employees can lose their devices or share their devices— and the data on them — with people who shouldn’t have access, security software can be difficult to keep up-to-date, and then there’s the risk of attack by hackers.

Tech Pro Research conducted a survey to see what kind of steps IT is taking to mitigate these risks. 61% of respondents viewed mobile devices as less secure than fixed devices like desktop computers, but security measures weren’t always consistent. Some departments allow BYOD, for example, but didn’t support those devices. Based on survey results, wearable devices could be a growing security risk. Only a small percentage of respondents said employees at their company use wearables, but almost half of that group said those devices weren’t password-protected.
