Mystery Customer Orders 6-8 Million Touch Screens for Mobile Phones

Germany's Balda says that it has won an order for 6 to 8 million touch sensors per year to be supplied to an unnamed "leading mobile phone manufacturer". The mass production is to commence in Xiamen, China, at the beginning of April 2008.

Balda is the supplier of the touch screen for the Apple iPhone, which will doubtless promote considerable speculation amongst Apple fans about who the unnamed customer for the new touch sensors will be.

"The Touch segment will be profitable in the present quarter already. We have now acquired an additional major order, this is a particular success," says Joachim Gut, the Chairman of the Managing Board of Balda.

The company says that the sensor developed especially for this order is an important component in a product, whose market launch is planned for 2008. At present touch-screen solutions are being produced for 15 customers.
