LG Emerges as Top Brand

On the streets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, there is something distinctly Korean; the flags of LG Electronics flying high and mighty, like it is in the heart of Seoul.

Already, LG Electronics is the leader for digital television and system air-conditioners but it is aiming to become the best in home electronics this year with sales of $200 million.

``Over the term, we are looking at revenues of $500 million in 2010 with increased sales of products like mobile phones and plasma display panels,'' said Oh Se-chon, a senior official of the public relations department.

Basically, he said, there is a huge market in Vietnam with increasing income and the proportion of high-end consumers is rising very quickly.

As part of the marketing strategy, LG Electronics has signed popular entertainer Lee Hae-young as the spokesperson in pursuit of the ``Hallyu,'' or Korean wave campaign.

``We are running the advertisements on television broadcasts to promote LG Electronics as a premier brand and our statistics show that the results are there,'' Oh said.

LG Electronics has been engaging in a wide range of programs to get to the heart of Vietnamese consumers _ 85 million in all _ performing a wide range of promotions to get their attention.

``While we are confident of the quality of our products, this is a fairly new market and we want to make sure that the local consumer understand where we stand as far as after sales services and customer reach is concerned,'' Oh said.

Perhaps as a result of these efforts, LG Electronics has been decorated with numerous commendations, including the Labor Medal and the Corporate Medal.

Last year, LG Electronics was decorated with the Prize for Representative Corporation last year by the Vietnamese government.

In addition to the promotional efforts, LG Electronics is undertaking scholarship programs as well as campaigns to clean up environmental pollution.

It is also organizing soccer tournaments and taekwondo contests to not only encourage sports among the Vietnamese, but to allow the essence of Korea to take root in the Southeast Asian Country.

And a classic example of what LG Electronics is all about rest along the 3.7-kilometer-long Tahng Long Bridge.

“In all major locations of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, there are reminders that LG Electronics is in town to offer services like they have never seen before,” Oh aid.

The 3.7-kilometer-long Tahng Long Bridge is decorated with flags of LG Electronics as in other parts of Vietnam where the Korean electronics giant has emerged as the market leader.
