Taiwan-based OpenMoko launches Android-based handset
In addition to High Tech Computer (HTC) and Asustek Computer, Taiwan-based OpenMoko has also launched an Android-based handset recently, according to the company.
OpenMoko pointed out that the company has always been using open source code to develop its handsets and adopting the Android platform does not mean the company's strategy has changed. The company added that it does not plan to join the Open Handset Alliance (OHA).
OpenMoko also noted that it is not considering trying to win first-tier handset vendors' Android orders, but will consider co-branded cooperation.
OpenMoko has already launched two handsets, the Neo1973 and FreeRunner, and is planning to at launch at least one new phone each year. Currently, the company's main focus is developing its technical platform and will start selling products to consumers in 2009.
