HTC shaves over 50% of its workforce in Japan, says paper
High Tech Computer (HTC) has reportedly reduced the number of employees at its branch office in Japan by more than 50% with the aim to improve operating efficiency, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report. Slightly over 20 staff remain at the branch.
Despite having already established business relations with four Japan telecom services operators – DoCoMo, KDDI, Softbank Mobile and Emobile – HTC is expected to ship less than 200,000 handsets to Japan in 2008, approximately equal shipments in Taiwan even though the Taiwan handset market is just one-fifth of the size, the paper said.
