Motorola Extends The Delivery Of Personalized Media Experiences To Hospital Group Générale De Santé
Patients to benefit from bedside access to information and entertainment; staff to secure hospital information delivered over existing telephony infrastructure
Paris, France– 2 December 2008 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that it has implemented its T2 powerbroadband system to enable three hospitals managed by leading European private healthcare provider, Générale de Santé to deliver voice, data and video services. The innovative Motorola solution provides an advanced IP broadband infrastructure to support multimedia services delivered over the existing telephone line, eliminating the need for additional cabling or electrical work in highly sanitized patient rooms.
Motorola worked with Netlogon, a French VAR with expertise in voice, data and video service delivery for the healthcare industry, to enable the deployment of multimedia terminals at each hospital bed in the three locations that allows patients to exchange emails, browse the Internet, make telephone calls, watch live TV and movies, as well as communicate with medical personnel. In addition, in 2009, the terminals will provide medical staff with secure access to hospital information including; patient records, lab results and X-ray images.
The multimedia access system is enabled by Motorola’s IP broadband infrastructure based on Motorola’s innovative mT2a platform. This platform allows quick and trouble free installation, intuitive maintenance and management of the multimedia system. It is designed to meet the unique demands of the hospital environment by delivering 50 Mb of secure and managed IP traffic alongside voice and power, all over the existing copper pair telephony wiring, allowing the hospitals to transform a limited infrastructure to deliver state-of-the-art services.
“Offering the multimedia capabilities at the bedside allows us to provide the ‘hotel like’ service that patients increasingly demand,” said Alexandre Plé, IT manager for Générale de Santé clinics. “The services also act as a differentiator for us in a competitive healthcare industry.”
Emmanuel Hardy, CTO at Netlogon added: “This innovative solution not only meets the industry’s demands to enhance the patient’s experience, but also enables the integration of hospital services at the bedside, thereby helping to enhance staff productivity and maximise operational efficiencies. Motorola’s mT2a platform delivers the best IP broadband performance in the industry.“
“Today’s announcement is a good example of how we are accelerating the delivery of personalized media experiences for end users, at home or in hospital,” commented Greg Ioffe, general manager of Motorola’s Private Broadband Network solutions. “At the same time, hospitals benefit significantly from streamlined operations and better access to data without the inconvenience of a complex installation.”
The mT2a platform has been widely deployed in the hotel market around the world. Now the benefits of this easy to install system are being extended to the healthcare market. Both industries share a common challenge; the pressure to deliver new services in buildings where new cabling would be prohibitively expensive.
