Motorola Placed in Leaders Quadrant for Wireless LAN Infrastructure in Magic Quadrant Report

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Dec. 2, 2008 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders quadrant in the ‘Wireless LAN Infrastructure Magic Quadrant’ (1) report.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant positions vendors according to their “ability to execute” and “completeness of vision” in wireless LAN infrastructure.

With respect to the first criterion, "Gartner evaluates technology providers on the quality and efficacy of the processes, systems, methods or procedures that enable IT provider performance to be competitive, efficient and effective, and to positively affect revenue, retention and reputation. Ultimately, technology providers are judged on their ability and success in capitalizing on their vision."

For the “completeness of vision” criterion, "Gartner evaluates technology providers on their ability to convincingly articulate logical statements about current and future market direction, innovation, customer needs, and competitive forces, and how well they map onto the Gartner position. Ultimately, technology providers are rated on their understanding of how market forces can be exploited to create opportunity for the provider."

“We are excited about Gartner’s decision to place Motorola in the Leaders quadrant in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Wireless LAN Infrastructure,” said Sujai Hajela, vice president and general manager of Enterprise WLAN, Motorola Enterprise Mobility business. “Motorola believes this is a testament to our continued commitment to deliver a comprehensive, innovative portfolio of wireless LAN solutions that enable the all-wireless enterprise.”

According to the report, "A vendor in the Leaders quadrant will have demonstrated an ability to fulfill a broad variety of customer requirements, provide an end-to-end infrastructure-based solution and have financial viability to continue that support beyond a single installation. Leaders should have demonstrated an ability to shape the market, maintain strong relationships with their channels and customers, and have no obvious gaps within the portfolio."

Motorola offers a comprehensive portfolio of wireless LAN (WLAN) infrastructure solutions designed to enable the truly wireless enterprise, regardless of the size of the business — from large enterprises with locations all over the world to branch offices and small businesses. Delivering Internet protocol (IP) coverage to virtually all spaces both indoors and outdoors, Motorola's innovative wireless enterprise portfolio includes fixed broadband, mesh, enterprise WLAN and Motorola AirDefense security solutions. With time-proven resiliency, security and performance equal to or greater than that of a wired network, Motorola’s solutions substantially reduce network deployment and maintenance costs and ensure the availability of cost-effective wireless connectivity in every corner of the enterprise. The result is the truly wireless enterprise — offering full mobility at a fraction of the cost of a traditional wired network.
