Nokia and Motorola account for 90% of China's smartphone market in 3Q08, says CCID
CCID Consulting has recently released its data showing that the sales volume of China's smartphone market in the thrid quarter of 2008 reached 7.47 million units, up 0.6% from the second quarter. The total smartphone sales in the third quarter reached 18.17 billion yuan (US$2.54 billion), up 4.5% sequentailly. Smartphones' sales volume in the third quarter accounted for 19.3% of the total handset sales volume in China, up 0.7% from the second quarter.
The shares of Nokia and Motorola accounted for 89.15% of the total market. The China-based research firm forecasts that their market share will even reach over 90%.
Nokia's smartphones range low-end to high-end segments, with product prices varying from several hundred yuan to 6,000 yuan. Nokia dominated the 2,000-yuan-and-under segment. Motorola's market share improved slightly in the third quarter, with its new mid-range products becoming popular among users.
