Samsung wins WiMAX bid from Taiwan WiMAX licensee Vmax

Samsung Electronics has been awarded a WiMAX hardware bid from Taiwan-based Vmax Telecom, to supply the Taiwan WiMAX licensee's base stations, network access gateways and related equipment, according to a company release from Samsung Electronics Taiwan.

Vmax's order will include 200 WiMAX base stations and other equipment for Vmax's WiMAX network in the greater Taipei area. The contract is valued at up to NT$400-500 million (US$12.1-15.1 million), according to an estimate by the Chinese-language Commercial Times.

Samsung's contract is part of Vmax's projected WiMAX investment of NT$2-3 billion for the next two years, the paper quoted Vmax president Teddy Huang as indicating. Huang also noted that Vmax has also contacted a number of Taiwan-based network equipment makers, including D-Link, Zyxel Communications, Accton Technology and Tecom for the purchase of WiMAX CPE products.
