SanDisk and Toshiba reduce production NAND flash memory
Companies SanDisk and Toshiba today announced that their joint venture, located in the Japanese city of Yokkaiti (Yokkaichi) Mie prefecture (Mie), will be lowered from January next year to 30% of the production of NAND flash memory.
As state companies, recession in the global economy and the slowdown in consumer spending had a significant impact on the demand of semiconductors. This is particularly noticeable in the case of NAND flash memory used in memory cards and MP3 players, which indicated falling demand and excess supply. In this regard, the companies decided to reduce production at factories in Yokkaiti. In this city there are 4 factories to produce chips, and two of them (Fab 3 and Fab 4) temporarily halted for the period from December 31, 2008 to 12 January 2009, after which production to be resumed and is 70% of the current load .
