Taiwan government urged to establish WiMAX industry chain
Taiwan's government should coordinate efforts to establish a WiMAX industry chain on the island as the WiMAX industry is moving into a new era in 2009, Acer chairman JT Wang has urged in his capacity as chairman of the Taipei Computer Association (TCA).
The US, Japan, Taiwan and a number of emerging nations are going to officially launch commercial WiMAX services in 2009, which is expected to result in significant impact on the global telecom industry, Wang stated.
Although some market watchers are betting on the prospects of the emerging LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology, Wang indicated that WiMAX and LTE are compatible technologies, and that Taiwan makers can easily make inroads into any telecom segments utilizing their WiMAX capabilities, Wang asserted.
An established WiMAX industry chain can also indirectly assist other IT industries, including semiconductor, flat-panel display (FPD), among others, Wang noted.
