Telecom device makers MTI and Tecom gearing up production of remote radio heads for WiMAX and LTE, says paper
Taiwan-based network and telecom equipment maker Microelectronics Technology (MTI) plans to move into the production of remote radio heads (RRHs) supporting LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology, while another maker Tecom is gearing up its shipments of RRHs for WiMAX base stations, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.
While MTI is expected to start shipping RRHs in the first quarter of 2009, Tecom is likely to see its shipments of RRHs increase substantially in the coming year thanks to orders from Samsung Electronics, who is supplying WiMAX equipment to Sprint Nextel, UQ Communications as well as Scartel LLC of Russia, the paper said.
