Fast-Pitch Platinum Awards Contest Will Return to CTIA Wireless 2009; Entry Deadline is March 10
Continuing its commitment to openness and innovation, AT&T* today announced its Fast-Pitch Platinum Awards contest will return to CTIA Wireless 2009 in Las Vegas on April 1-2. The contest, in its fourth year, is hosted by devCentral, AT&T's official resource for development.
The Fast-Pitch Platinum Awards contest is designed to identify the country's most innovative wireless applications. Developers of the best applications, content and enterprise solutions will be rewarded with cash prizes, given the opportunity to go to market with AT&T and earn the coveted title of 2009 Fast-Pitch Platinum Award winner.
AT&T will award a total of $70,000 in cash prizes, including $25,000 and inclusion in an AT&T distribution channel for first-place winners in the consumer and enterprise categories. Two runners-up in each of those categories will win $5,000.
"Openness is about offering all of our customers great choices in applications, devices, operating systems and much more," said Mark Collins, vice president-Voice and Data Products, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. "The Fast-Pitch contest helps us identify and encourage the best of our country's creative technical talent, so we can rapidly deliver the benefits of that creativity to our customers."
AT&T, for the fourth year in a row, is now accepting registrations for its unique Fast-Pitch program, which is open to developers so they can present new and exciting applications that may ultimately find their into the handsets of AT&T's wireless customers. Fast-Pitch lets developers briefly present their applications to judges, who then decide if an application merits further consideration.
Fast-Pitch sessions will take place at CTIA Wireless 2009 from April 1-2 in Las Vegas. The deadline for submissions is midnight Pacific time on March 10. Developers can enter only one contest category at http://developer.att.com/fast-pitch. An AT&T representative will contact presenters in mid-March to schedule Fast-Pitch meetings. Those invited to present will have five minutes to pitch their applications to a consumer panel of judges and 10 minutes to present to an enterprise panel of judges in private meeting rooms. Content and applications must be presented on a working handset.

AT&T offers its customers all of the world's major mobile operating systems, working with developers to create applications and content for BlackBerry®, iPhone, Microsoft Windows Mobile, Java, Palm OS and Symbian.
All of AT&T's mobile applications operate on its GSM network, the de facto world standard in mobile communications used by more than 88 percent of wireless users worldwide. GSM is inherently open, making it easy for developers and carriers to bring innovative applications to consumers.
AT&T also offers a Wireless Reference Architecture Guide, one of the most comprehensive resources in the industry to help developers create wireless applications. The guide — which can be accessed online at AT&T's developer portal, devCentral — includes a wealth of information on all aspects of wireless technology, from operating systems to application life-cycle management.
With 10 sections, the guide provides developers with information on topics such as wireless network security, wireless network technology and emerging trends, wireless gateways, and the wireless application protocol (WAP) environment.
