BlackBerry Bold launching in Japan
The BlackBerry® Bold™ will become the newest model in the docomo Pro Series™ for busy professionals when it enters Japanese stores on February 20.
Smartphones, including BlackBerrys, had been an uncommon sight in Japan until recently, the market having been dominated by highly functional, Internet-compatible i-mode handsets. However, new features and functions have made this type of handsets more popular — and the outlook is for more people to begin using smartphones like BlackBerry.
BlackBerrys are exceedingly popular among businesspeople worldwide. In December RIM announced that Blackberry customers had reached approximately 21 million people in more than 140 countries.
In Japan, BlackBerrys are available exclusively from DOCOMO. Although they have attracted a loyal but relatively small core of users to date, the market is expected to expand, particularly among users who place a priority on secure mobile access to synchronized office email, schedules and files.
BlackBerry Features
•No need to carry a laptop
Office and other PC email are easily synchronized, many documents can be viewed and fast data entry is possible via a QWERTY keyboard and trackball.
•Broad compatibility
A total of eight bands of W-CDMA (2100/1900/850/800MHz) and GSM (1900/1800/900/850MHz) are supported for seamless data communication in markets worldwide. DOCOMO customers have fast, hassle-free access in most of these markets through global roaming tie-ups.
•Quality design and display
The elegant leather-like skin wraps around a stunning HGVA color LCD display that delivers crisp video images.
•Enterprise and personal services
The BlackBerry Enterprise Solution offers advanced security for enterprise customers, while individual customers use the BlackBerry Internet Service. Exclusive to Japan, a non-camera model is also available for enterprise customers.
Affordable pricing
•Reduced monthly charge
The monthly charge for the BlackBerry Internet Service for individual customers will be reduced to 1,500 yen (excl. tax) down 51% from 2,900 yen (excl. tax), beginning February 1.
